Now in its sixth year, Sainsbury’s Active Kids encourages kids to have a healthier lifestyle by helping them learn about the importance of eating well and being active. The scheme offers schools and organisations across the country free sports, cooking and gardening equipment and active experiences. This year almost 33,000 schools and clubs have signed up to Active Kids making it the biggest yet.
Active Kids has been running since February 2005 and has already given away more than £86 million worth of equipment and experiences to registered organisations. Now, for the first time, sports clubs that are Clubmark accredited can sign up to the scheme and benefit from free equipment and experiences.
Paul Farzam, Store Manager of Sainsbury’s Redditch said: “The Active Kids scheme is a great way for our whole community to pull together and provide young people in Redditch with free sports, cooking and gardening equipment. I’m sure that all of our customers will know of a local organisation that is collecting and they can donate their vouchers to, so we’re encouraging everyone to play their part and collect their vouchers when they’re shopping in store. Every year I see just how much local schools and groups benefit thanks to customers’ efforts and this year we want to make an even bigger difference for kids in this local area so we hope everyone gets involved”

The great news is that this year’s scheme has been extended so that Clubmark accredited sports clubs can join in the fun meaning even more kids will benefit from the scheme. Active Kids 2010 has got all the makings of being our best ever year”
