The beginning of February saw the Year 5 Sportshall Athletics Tournament, the final of these competitions to be held for this year. The tournament took place at Abbey Stadium.

Each school entered a girls team and a boys team, consisting of 7 pupils on each team. All middle schools entered, in addition to Coppice Primary School and Meadow Green Primary School.

The teams rotated around 9 events during the afternoon. The Track events were a Fastest Lap, a Continuous 5 Lap Run, a 7 x 1 Relay and an Obstacle Relay. The field events were Standing Long Jump, Standing Triple Jump, Soft Javelin, Seated Weighted Shot and Speed Bounce.

The pupils were assisted and scored on the events by leaders from Saint Augustines High School.

The girls competition was won by St Bede’s Middle School with Birchensale Middle School as runners up. The boys competition was won by Woodfield Middle School with St Bede’s Middle School as runners up. Congratulations to all winners, and all of the teams who took part.

The Sportshall Athletics Tournaments have been a great success this year and we would like to thank all schools, leaders and staff for their support in making these such a highlight of the 2009/2010 sporting calendar.
