During October, Abbey Stadium was the venue for the first 2 Sportshall Athletics Tournaments for the 09-10 Academic Year. These competitions will take place across the year for students in Years 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8. The first two to take place were the Year 8 & Year 6 competitions.

First was the Year 8’s. The afternoon consisted of 2 separate competitions, one for the girls and one for the boys. The teams rotated around 9 activities as a school but girls and boys were scored separately. The Track events were a Fastest Lap, a Continuous 6 Lap Run, a 7 x 1 Relay and a 7 x 2 Relay. The field events were Standing Long Jump, Standing Triple Jump, Soft Javelin, Seated Weighted Shot and Speed Bounce.



The pupils were assisted and scored on the events by leaders from St Augustines High School and Kingsley College.

It was a fantastic competition which was won by St Bede’s Middle School in both the girls and boys competition. The runners up in the girls competition was Woodrush High School and for the boys competition was Walkwood Middle School.

Two weeks later was the turn of Year 6. They took part in the same 9 activities and were assisted and scored by Young Leaders from St Augustines. The competition was won by Ipsley Middle School in both the boys and girls competitions with Woodfield Middle School runners up in both competitions.
