Young Ambassadors
21 Sep 2009

September saw the annual conference for the new Young Ambassadors. The regional conference took place at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry and was attended by a number of Olympians and Paralympians, including Darren Campbell.

Each School Sport Partnership was asked to nominate 2 Ambassadors to take along to the conference, along with an ambassador who has already been undertaking the role.

The idea is that each partnership will have a Platinum Ambassador, 2 Gold Ambassadors and a number of Silver Ambassadors. They will use their role to encourage more people into sport and to use the London 2012 Olympics as motivation to get involved.

The day was hugely inspiring. The Olympians and Paralympians were allocated groups of young ambassadors to work with on the day. There were also some young ambassadors who have been involved in the programme and have hugely benefited from it, now being a part of the national steering group for Young Ambassadors.

Our 2 Young Amassadors, Will and Siobhan have come away with lots of ideas of how they are going to use their new role to inspire young people in Redditch and to get more people taking part in sport

The Young Ambassadors have been challenged to try and get more people YAing. That is, making the shapes of Y and A with different people and in different places. Craig Heap and Nick Robinson Baker showed us one way of doing it!
