During the last academic year, two Mini Tennis events took place in Redditch. The events were based upon the County LTA format which enables the winning school team to progress to the Herefordshire and Worcestershire team finals.
The Redditch events were organised by the School Sport Partnership in conjunction with the Redditch Borough Council Action Sport team and the Senior Competition Manager for Herefordshire and Worcestershire.
Each team consisted of 4 pupils, 2 girls and 2 boys.
Players competed in singles matches against one of the 4 pupils from each of the other competing school teams. All of these matches counted towards determining the final school team results.
The matches were played on a badminton court, with a low net of standard height.
The Yr 5 and 6 competition was held on Thursday 15th May at Trinity High School and was attended by 2 teams from Coppice Primary School & 2 teams from Meadow Green Primary School.
Coppice “A” team were the winners, with Meadow Green “A” as runners up.
The Yr 3 and 4 competition was held on Thursday 22nd May at Kingsley College.
This event was attended by 3 teams from Meadow Green Primary & 2 teams from Harry Taylor First School.
Harry Taylor “B” team were the winners, with Meadow Green “A” runners up.
Harry Taylor participated in the county finals on Friday 11th July and although they didn’t finish in one of the top few places, their team was mainly Yr 3 pupils, who will still be eligible to take part in the same age group competition in 2008-9.
