Fieldfare Kielder Challenge
12 Jun 2008

During April pupils from schools in the Redditch School Sport Partnership participated in the Fieldfare Kielder Challenge heats which took place in Hereford.

The Kielder Challenge is an inclusive national outdoor adventure competition which has been running for over 20 years. It involves outdoor problem solving activities that test the skills of a team to work together, communicate, plan and evaluate. The Challenge is fully inclusive and open to all young people.

The activities challenge teams of eight 13 to 16 year olds, four with and four without disabilities. All team members play an active role in solving the challenges and the inclusion of all is a key goal for each team.

The Redditch team was made up of four pupils from Arrowvale High School and four pupils from Pitcheroak Special School. The pupils met for the first time on the morning of the challenge but quickly became a strong team and their confidence grew as the challenges progressed. Organisers were extremely impressed when they discovered the team had only met for the first time that day as they were working so well together.
